In 1994, Her Majesty Queen Sonja completed the trail for the first time and was thrilled by the magnificent nature in Øksnes; hence the name Dronningruta. For over 20 years, it has attracted numerous enthusiastic hikers who wish to follow in her footsteps.

Dronningruta is a hike for those who are in good physical condition and have a head for heights as some parts may seem challenging in terms of altitude.
